Matching Herbs and Names

Purpose
To strengthen recognition, memory, and language by connecting familiar herbs with their written names. This activity also engages the senses through sight, smell, and touch.

Materials

  • Fresh or dried herbs (e.g., basil, rosemary, mint, parsley)
  • Name cards with the herb’s name printed in large, clear font
  • Optional: outline cards or mats for placement
  • A tray or basket to hold the herbs
  1. Prepare the cards
    • Lay out the name cards neatly in front of the participant.
  2. Demonstrate slowly and silently
    • Pick up one herb.
    • Smell it, then place it above the card with the matching name.
    • Continue with each herb, using calm, deliberate movements.
