Nuts and Bolts

Nuts and bolts as an activity can be highly beneficial for individuals with dementia. This activity engages cognitive functions, enhances fine motor skills, and provides sensory engagement.

Collect a variety of nuts and bolts in different sizes. Using larger, easier-to-handle pieces can be more suitable for individuals with dementia. Explain the task to the participant. Show them how to match the nuts with the corresponding bolts and how to thread them together.

  • Cognitive Stimulation: Matching and threading nuts and bolts may enhance memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Handling and threading the nuts and bolts can enhance dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Sensory Engagement: The tactile experience of handling nuts and bolts and the visual stimulation from the activity can be soothing and engaging.
