Clay and Screws

Clay and screws can be an excellent activity for individuals with dementia, providing cognitive stimulation, fine motor skill enhancement, and sensory engagement.

You will need a soft clay that is easy to mold and a set of screws in different sizes. Explain the task to the participant. Show them how to shape the clay and insert the screws into it. Start with a simple demonstration of how to mold the clay into a shape and then gently insert the screws into the clay.

  • Cognitive Stimulation: Manipulating the clay and inserting screws may enhance memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fine Motor Skills: Handling the screws and shaping the clay enhances dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Sensory Engagement: The tactile experience of handling the clay and the visual and tactile feedback from inserting screws can be soothing and engaging.
