A word‑scramble paired with a picture is a wonderful way to support language, visual recognition, and confidence. The Montessori method emphasizes hands‑on exploration, choice, and success at the resident’s level.
How to Introduce the Activity
• Place the worksheet and pencil in front of the resident.
• Keep the environment calm and uncluttered.
• Sit beside them, not across—this feels collaborative, not evaluative.
Use simple, respectful, and encouraging phrases:
“Let’s look at this picture together. What do you see?”
Allow them time to observe the image.
Then connect the picture to the scrambled word:
“This picture gives us a clue. The letters below are mixed up. Let’s see if we can put them in the right order to match the picture.”
Offer one step at a time:
• “Here are the letters. Let’s look at the first one.”
• “What sound does this letter make?” (if appropriate)
• “Let’s try moving the letters with our finger to see what word they might make.”
